SKÆG

Back in the fall of 2015 photographer Lasse Bak Mejlvang attended the sixth official world championship for beards in Austria. Here he shot portraits of the competitors and their remarkable beards.

What is interesting is the fact that the beard game has changed over the last few years. Today it is not just old men who grow a beard, but men of all ages and beards of all shapes. In the championship for beards the average age of the contesters is falling and the younger generation is showing more desire to grow a beard.

The beard also has a special place for Lasse Bak Mejlvang who grew up with a father who had different beard styles in Lasses childhood. This started an interest in beard for Lasse watching his father with mustache, full beard and so.

In the exhibition SKÆG Lasse Bak Mejlvang draws a fantastic picture of how beard today can be very personal, fanciful and eccentric. It is a series of portraits of a very broad range of guys that captures not just the impressiveness of the beards, but also the personality behind the beard.

You can see the exhibition until 1st of August at Øksnehallen.
