A Femme Fatale in Vinyl

Trends Spring Summer 2017 | Vinyl

A seductive patent leather trend heated up the runway during the Spring 2017 Paris Fashion Week.

Through decades the long black vinyl coat has made its mark, often seen as a costume favorite symbolizing promiscuous women in movies – like Catherine Deneuve in the 1967 classic “Belle de Jour” dressed by Yves Saint Laurent in a black vinyl coat.

But in 2017 the coat symbolizes a strong, fierce and more sophisticated femme fatale. At Balenciaga the look was sleek with a futuristic vibe, at Kenzo there was a more dramatic and ultra-feminine feel, and at Topshop Unique the look channeled a late 80s club kid Edwige Belmore punk vibe.

Besides the iconic black coat, there’s a grand variety of stylish vinyl trousers, skirts and dresses in-store this season, not to mention the arsenal of raunchy accessories made to emphasize and complete the seductive look.
